  • Eau de Parfum

So…this morning I picked up a specimen container labeled “Perineal tissue”.

For those of you not in the know, the perineum is that stretch of skin/tissue between your genitals and your anus. Interestingly enough it is supposed to be the most sensitive spot on the human body.

Now…imagine that spot on your body. Go ahead…do it. You’ve know you’ve been there before.

Think about how much tissue you have there.

And then think about the fact that the bucket I received contained tissue about the size of a volleyball.

You don’t have to be a Rocket Scientist to conclude that the patient is a Big Girl.

Who happens to be a diabetic.

The best surprise, however, came when I opened the bucket.

Seems our Big Girl has a large gluteal abscess.

Let’s just say the smell was less than pleasant. As in I almost tossed my cookies. And people…trust me when I say I’ve smelled some pretty nasty nastiness in my line of work.

But it begs the question…how you could you not notice that smell coming from between your legs?

  • Her huge tatas blocked it? Lord I hope I don’t have to do this kinda stuff in grad school.

  • I can only imagine how bad that smell was, and I’d really rather not have to.

Meanwhile, when someone gets that big, a lot of things go unnoticed.  Don’t ask.

  • ewwwww. I am very very in touch with that spot. I love it! I didnt know it had a name.

  • rough line of work. i’d want to be a researcher person when i go work rather than a doctor where i actually have to meet these sort of people. I’m sure she’s really nice and all. She’ll probably also offer some cookies a cupcake and a stick of butter when she comes into the office. MMM Cookies!

  • Since she is a big girl, I’m guessing “Out of sight, out of mine?”

  • *VOMIT* OhMYGAWD……. I can only imagine. People can be so out of touch with their own body. The more I read about stuff like this the more glad I am of being a Veterinarian. Yup, that was the right choice for me….

  • @Emancip8 - Oh…you will…you will.  You’ll just love it the first time you have to marsupialize a perirectal abscess.  Just be sure to stand to the side or you’ll be wearing the gift that keeps on giving.

  • I need to learn not to read your page shortly after lunch…

that was very very close… I hope my color returns to my face

before someone asks me why I look like I’m going to be sick.

    (bless her heart, poor girl)
